Thom Bastick

Thom Bastick’s set is “a clear night sky, an enveloping darkness filled with myriad pinpricks of brightness. A velvety blackness might set the mood, but it’s the multitude of tiny shining points that ends up lighting up the room” - The Underground Stage

Bio

Based in Eora/Sydney, Thom’s work weaves seamlessly between midwest emo, shoegaze and alt-country, with songs that are often dark and brooding though never lacking in glimmer. In 2024 he released two singles, Cut and Right, which will be followed up in late 2025 with the first single, now I like u more, from his debut album In Cars.

Recorded with bandmate and collaborator Luca Dimakopolous at Church St Studios in Camperdown, In Cars journeys through the past few years of Thom’s life in Sydney. It utilises a series of ambient field recordings to convey a sense of place accompanying a suite of blunt lyrics and distorted guitars. The recording and mixing process was focused on capturing an honest, lo-fi sound with reference to the likes of Alex G, Teethe and Living Hour. After being mixed in Sydney by Luca, it went through the trusted ears of Greg Obis (MJ Lenderman, Dutch Interior, Winter, Slow Pulp) in Chicago for mastering.

Thom and his close friends - Luca Dimakopoulos (Drums), Gabe Smith (Bass), and Charles Carnabuci (Guitar) - form the band that brings the live shows to life. They have been performing around Eora/Sydney throughout 2025 with the likes of dogworld, Harrison Rae, Sevilles, Half Request, August Auzins, Local Tough Guy and more. The shows are dynamic and emotional and have been building attention across the local indie and alternative scene.

Having sold out his latest single release show at The Confectionery in Newtown, Thom has his eyes on the horizon and is planning a string of shows in the lead up to his next single urs.
